Accessibility of the Physical Environment Area

Traditionally, when talking about accessibility only buildings, town planning and means of transport were taken into account. Today we are aware that accessibility must be a characteristic of all environments, products and services, including those of a so-called virtual nature. Naturally, although the importance of the latter grows day by day, due to the incorporation of communication technology in all tangible environments, products and services, those of a so-called physical nature continue to have an important presence.

Within the team of the Universal Accessibility Directorate of the ONCE Foundation this area deals with the actions, activities and projects in which greater importance is given to the constructed environment (buildings, town planning, transport) and its equipment (fixtures and fitting, signposting…)

With the aim of promoting design for all and universal accessibility our mission is to work to achieve the establishment of criteria and standards which can be applied when designing, building, adapting and maintaining the environment and its equipment in order to reach, maintain and improve its accessibility levels.
